SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS UNITE! TAKE BACK THE NIGHT!

Take Back the Night 2011, “Our Roots, Our Revolution.”

The University of Calgary, Social Work Students’ Association (SWSA) is pleased to support, and participate in, Calgary’s 28^th annual Take Back the Night event to be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 8 to 10 p.m. in the Connaught Park located at 11^th Street and 14^th Avenue, S.W.

Take Back the Night is an international movement designed to raise awareness about violence against women and to support the well-being of those who have been, and are, in abusive situations. The purpose is to empower women to feel safe in their communities, while highlighting the need for institutional change in transforming a rape culture, rather than resorting to reactionary, victim-blaming policies.

Social Workers (all are welcome) will meet up in the park  ….  just look for the Social Work Students’ Association (SWSA) banner and sign in.  Please arrive at 7:30 p.m. if you would like to participate in a sign-making workshop made possible by Take Back the Night organizers.
